DX expedition Saint Barthélemy FJ/OS1T 14-22 May 2011
Short after I came home from the 9Q50ON expedition, I was thinking of my own one-man dx-expedition to a DXCC country in the top 100. After a few weeks thinking, searching, and planning, I decided to go to FJ (Saint Barthélemy).
I had many reasons to choose Saint Barthélemy. The Last expedition in FJ was done by Lothar and Babs, but at that time conditions were not so good on the higher bands 6/10/12/15 meter band for them. There was one other future expedition planned before I could go, by Anna, OH2YL, but she planned a “CW only” dxpedition. So I should go for RTTY and SSB operation only! An other reason to choose Saint Barthélemy is that it was number 5 DXCC wanted in Japan! and RTTY was also very high wanted in the rankings. Also, many operators over the whole World needed FJ in SSB, RTTY, especially on 10/12/15 meter since it became a new dxcc a few years ago, and since then there have been no good high band conditions

Planning by the Hellenic Amateur Radio Association of Australia for the DXpedition to Lord Howe Island (OC-004) between July 23rd and August 2nd 2011 began in February 2011. The VK9HR (Hellenic Radio) callsign was issued on April 6th 2011 by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). Team Leader Tommy Horozakis VK2IR (HARAOA President) and Co-Leader John Chalkiarakis VK3YP (HARAOA Treasurer) began the long process of organising all the equipment, antennas and logistics. The aim was to put together an international team including VK’s and thus we were delighted to have David EB7DX as the QSL Manager and webmaster for VK9HR. David EB7DX was most recently the QSL Manager for the very successful 4A4A Revillagigedo Archipelago DXpedition in March 2011.

We are pleased to present the results of the EUDXF Eyeball QSO contest held at Hamradio 2011 in Friedrichshafen. We thank the participants for some real nice feedback.
A total of 28 people picked up a participation form and 9 of the forms were turned into the EUDXF booth before our 11 o'clock deadline on Sunday. Jan PA1TT who checked the forms spent about 16 hours on this job. No less than a total of 98 DXCC entities were claimed. Unfortunately we had to decide not to accept 14 of these entities, because they did not match our rules. Even in this contest some of the participants had quite some dupes, whitch took their scores down.
Our congratulations go to the winners:
- 1st place Chris DL1MGB with 65 granted entities, congratulation with one year Daily DX and also one year the EUDXF E-mail newsletter.
- 2nd place Bekir TA2RS with 61 granted entities, congratulation with one year Weekly DX and also one year the EUDXF E-mail newsletter.

October 21st through November 3rd were the official dates for five Texans and 3 Italians to join together for a DXpedition to Botswana. The group was led by Frosty, K5LBU (A25CF) and Lor, IK5MDB (A25DF) and joined by the other principal operators Gianfranco, I0ZY (A25ZY), Pier, IZ5MMB (A25MB), Bob, K5ZOL (A25BI), Matt, KD5TAN (A25AN), Jay, W5SL (A25SL), and Bob, W5UQ (A25UQ). Jay’s wife Dee and Bob’s (W5UQ) wife Elva also joined us for the trip. Frosty, Jay, and Dee travelled from Texas about a week early to begin gathering equipment. Meeting at the Washington Dulles Airport we endured the nearly 18-hour South African Airways flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, including a one-hour refueling stop in Dakar, Senegal. We stopped in Pretoria for a couple of days and stayed in a nice lodge (Ndlovu Lodge...Zulu word meaning Elephant) while we visited with Hal, ZS6WB with whom we did some sightseeing and shopping for last minute needs for the DXpedition. Also, while we shipped ahead what we could, Hal had been collecting and borrowing rotators and some aluminum poles, coax cables, and antenna parts and supports for us so we didn't have to ship everything to Botswana, thus saving some expensive shipping fees.
